Northern Madagascar combines reef, drop-off and blue-water hunting in an extraordinary marine environment.
From Nosy Be, liveaboard expeditions can reach offshore grounds such as Castor Bank and Intermediary Bank, taking you far beyond the range normally explored on conventional day trips.
These waters offer opportunities for some formidable target species: dogtooth tuna, giant trevally, Spanish mackerel, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, barracuda, coral trout, green jobfish, snapper, grouper and emperors, with sailfish and marlin also encountered in the region.
The attraction isn't simply the species list. It's the ability to move between reef and genuine blue water, following conditions and using local knowledge to decide where to hunt.
Independent spearfishing operators working from Nosy Be similarly describe Castor and the more distant offshore banks as prime liveaboard territory, with extensive reef systems and both pelagic and reef species.

The great advantage of a liveaboard expedition is time.
Rather than returning to Nosy Be at the end of every fishing day, Yacht Adiva remains offshore with you. You wake up where you want to hunt, spend the day in the water and finish the day without a long journey back to land.
Spearfishing is operated directly from the mothership. Although a 53-foot catamaran isn't as nimble as a centre-console, it works particularly well for drift-based spearfishing — and removes much of the time normally lost travelling between accommodation and remote fishing grounds.
Between sessions, the yacht is right there. Have lunch. Shower. Rest. Grab a drink. Take a nap. Then get back into the water.
You aren't commuting to your spearfishing holiday. You're living on it.

Yacht Adiva
Adiva is a 16.1-metre / 53-foot Royal Cape catamaran, providing a remarkably comfortable base for six nights in remote waters.
Four double cabins with private bathroom facilities, unlimited fresh water and full-board service throughout the expedition.
A three-person yacht crew looks after life aboard alongside your professional spearfishing guide, allowing you to concentrate on the reason you're there: getting into the water.

WHAT A SIX-NIGHT EXPEDITION LOOKS LIKE
DAY 1 – NOSY BE TO THE BANKS
Early departure from Nosy Be for the approximately 6–7 hour passage offshore. Conditions permitting, the first spearfishing session takes place after arrival. Dinner and your first night aboard.
DAYS 2–5 – FULL DAYS SPEARFISHING
Wake up offshore and spend your days hunting the banks, reefs and blue water with your guide. The programme is determined by conditions, currents, target species and what the guide is seeing.
Return to Adiva between sessions for meals, refreshments and rest before heading back into the water.
DAY 6 – FINAL FULL DAY
A final full day on the grounds, with meals and your last night aboard.
DAY 7 – RETURN
Breakfast aboard and return to Nosy Be.
