Kalanoro Forest Camp
Exclusive accommodation at Andasibe, Madagascar
Kalanoro Forest Camp
An exclusive rainforest retreat where every stay is shaped around you
Hidden within the forests of eastern Madagascar, Kalanoro Forest Camp offers something increasingly rare: complete privacy, exceptional wildlife encounters and the freedom to experience the forest entirely at your own pace.
With just two beautifully appointed tented units, Kalanoro accepts only one booking at a time. Whether you are travelling as a couple, family or small group, the entire camp is reserved exclusively for you. The second unit is never sold to other guests and there is no additional fee for this complete privatisation.
This is not a conventional lodge stay with fixed schedules and group excursions. Each day is planned around your interests, physical ability and preferred pace, guided by a team with an intimate understanding of the surrounding forest.
A private camp in the heart of the forest
Kalanoro Forest Camp combines genuine immersion in nature with thoughtful comfort and highly personalised service.
The camp has two spacious accommodation units, each designed for one couple or two adults. An additional bed can be added for one child aged 12 or younger.
The camp can accommodate:
Up to four adults in the two units
Up to four adults and two children when extra beds are added
Children of all ages, with no minimum age restriction
Each unit has a premium 180 x 200 cm Tempur memory-foam bed. Children’s extra beds measure 90 x 200 cm and offer the same standard of comfort.
Electricity is available in each tent, with charging facilities for mobile phones and laptops. Reliable Starlink internet is available in a dedicated area away from the accommodation, although Kalanoro’s most rewarding connection will always be the one it offers with nature.
The camp is entirely yours
Kalanoro’s greatest luxury is its exclusivity.
Only one couple, family or group is hosted at a time. This allows the team to adapt every aspect of the stay, from dining and daily activities to the routes explored through the forest.
There are no fixed check-in or check-out times. Arrival and departure are arranged around your wider itinerary and agreed with the camp in advance, at no additional charge.
A full day is kept free between bookings, giving the team time to prepare the camp properly for each new arrival.
Exceptional lemur encounters
Several groups of lemurs regularly move through the area surrounding Kalanoro. Combined with the guides’ detailed knowledge of the forest, this currently gives guests an excellent chance of seeing lemurs in their natural habitat.
These remain completely wild animals, free to move through the forest as they choose, so no sighting can ever be guaranteed. It is precisely this freedom that makes an encounter at Kalanoro so special.
Rather than visiting a controlled reserve or following a well-used tourist circuit, you experience the animals as part of the living forest around you.
Explore the forest your way
All activities offered by the camp are included in your stay.
Forest walks and explorations are individually planned according to your interests, mobility and level of fitness. Routes and timings can be adapted for gentle observation, more active exploration or a particular interest in Madagascar’s wildlife and plant life.
Depending on the programme and availability, specialist guidance may also be provided by primatologists, ornithologists and botanists.
Guests should advise us before travelling of any mobility concerns, medical restrictions or other requirements. This allows the camp to adjust the routes, pace and daily programme for your comfort and safety.
All-inclusive, naturally
Your stay includes:
Breakfast, lunch and dinner each day
A daily sundowner
Standard beverages
All forest activities offered by the camp
Kalanoro’s vehicles and team throughout your stay
Naturalist and scientific guidance, subject to the programme and availability
Meals and drinks can be served at the camp or in another specially chosen location.
The chef can adapt menus for dietary preferences, intolerances and allergies advised at the time of booking. Severe allergies must be discussed and assessed before the stay so that the necessary arrangements can be confirmed.
Premium alcoholic beverages, premium French wines, massages and other wellness treatments are available at an additional cost.
Comfort that respects the forest
Kalanoro’s approach to luxury is guided by its forest setting.
There is no minibar in the tents. Instead, drinks are prepared to order and delivered promptly wherever you choose to enjoy them.
The camp does not offer a laundry service, helping to reduce the use of water, energy and detergents within this sensitive environment.
These thoughtful choices allow guests to enjoy a high level of comfort while limiting the camp’s effect on its surroundings.
Your stay supports conservation and local communities
Twenty-five percent of the accommodation revenue from every stay is donated to the Ecovision Village NGO.
This supports environmental, scientific and community programmes in the surrounding region. The contribution is already included in the cost of your stay, with no separate fee for access to the site or forest.
A stay at Kalanoro is therefore not only an extraordinary private experience. It also contributes directly to the long-term protection of the area and the communities connected to it.
Getting to Kalanoro Forest Camp
Kalanoro can be reached privately by road or helicopter.
The journey takes approximately:
Four hours by road from Antananarivo
One hour by road from Moramanga
Thirty minutes by private helicopter from Antananarivo
Road journey times can vary depending on traffic and road conditions. Private transfers are arranged and quoted according to the number of guests, itinerary and preferred vehicle.
Helicopter transfers are subject to aircraft availability, weather and the operator’s safety requirements. Soft-sided luggage is required, with a maximum allowance of 15 kg per person.
Once you arrive, all transportation during your stay is provided by Kalanoro’s own vehicles and team. Their knowledge of the forest tracks ensures safer, smoother journeys while protecting outside vehicles from the demands of the terrain.
