Discover 🔗Nosy Sakatia – The Orchid Island

Hidden away on the peaceful island of Nosy Sakatia, just off the coast of Nosy Be, Sakatia Lodge offers a relaxed barefoot island experience surrounded by tropical gardens, coral reefs and calm turquoise waters. The island itself has no roads, only sandy footpaths winding through local villages, forest and secluded beaches creating a wonderfully slow pace of life that feels worlds away from the busier mainland.

Family-run and full of character, Sakatia Lodge is one of those rare places where guests quickly settle into island life. The lodge combines comfortable accommodation with warm Malagasy hospitality, excellent diving and snorkelling, fresh local cuisine and a strong connection to the natural environment. Giant green turtles are regularly seen just offshore and the island is home to chameleons, lemurs, geckos and abundant birdlife.

The lodge is particularly well known for its relaxed atmosphere and exceptional marine life. Snorkelling directly from the beach often rewards guests with turtle encounters, while the nearby reefs and islands provide superb diving, kayaking and boat excursion opportunities.

Sakatia Lodge is also an excellent base from which to explore Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve, Nosy Komba and the surrounding islands of the Nosy Be archipelago.

The onsite dive centre is one of the highlights of a stay at Sakatia Lodge and has built an outstanding reputation amongst both experienced divers and first-timers alike.

Run by Jacques and Sandra Vieira, the centre combines years of local knowledge with a genuine passion for Madagascar’s marine environment. From gentle reef dives and unforgettable turtle encounters to night dives and the lodge’s unique fluoro dives where corals and marine life glow beneath specialised lighting the experience is both exciting and deeply immersive.

With access to more than 30 dive sites around Nosy Be and the surrounding islands, guests can explore warm, crystal-clear tropical waters throughout the year. The dive centre also offers introductory “try dives”, full NAUI certification courses, guided snorkelling excursions and regular turtle snorkelling directly off the island’s protected seagrass beds.

Marine life sightings regularly include sea turtles, colourful reef fish, octopus, manta rays, seasonal whale sharks and spectacular hard coral formations. Jacques and Sandra are also passionate about marine conservation and frequently host informal sunset talks on turtles, coral reefs and Madagascar’s fragile marine ecosystem adding an enriching educational element to the overall experience.
